Welcome to our next Adventure in Nepal!
Greetings from the Alps! We’re Steffi and Peter, two lifelong
German hikers who’ve spent countless seasons conquering the peaks
of Bavaria, Dolomites and the Swiss Alps. Our passion for alpine
trails has led us to dream bigger than ever before—and that dream
is the Great Himalaya Trail.
The Great Himalaya Trail (GHT) is a network of trekking routes spanning the entire length of the Himalayan mountain range. Stretching over 4,500 kilometers across Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, and India, it represents one of the most ambitious and challenging long-distance treks on Earth.
We are more than grateful to Robin Boustead for researching and sharing details on all the trekking routes that link the GHT. Also big thank you to Dave from Wildernessprime for sharing his experiences and welcoming us to the Great Himalaya Trail community that is providing so manny useful tips, valuable insights and inspiring stories.
Join us as we lace up our boots, pack our backpacks, and set off on a trek that will test our limits, deepen our friendship, and leave us with memories that last a lifetime. The Himalayas await—let’s see where the trail takes us!
The Journey
Our journey begins at Kanchenjunga Base Camp in April 2026, where we’ll tackle the eastern segment of the GHT High Route. The trek continues across the Nango La and Lumbha Sumbha passes toward Makalu Base Camp. From that point, we plan to push over the high passes of Sherpani Col, West Col, and Amphu Lapcha—each soaring above 6,000m—before finally entering the Everest region. In total, the expedition should span about 50 days.
"The Great Himalaya Trail is not just a trek; it's a journey through the roof of the world, where every step brings you closer to understanding the majesty of the Himalayas."
Stay Tuned
We’ll expand this page over time to chronicle our planning, route specifics and trail progress once we reach Nepal.
